Burning Questions

How durable is the print?

The UV cured prints can last up to five years outdoors, and up to eight years indoors before starting to fade. This is much longer than stickers which tend to peel or tear off.

Can I clean the print?

Absolutely! It can be washed with soap and water. However, do not use alcohol based solvents as this will dissolve the ink and ruin the print.

How do I remove it?

On glass, plastic, tiles and other smooth surfaces, use alcohol based solvent to dissolve the ink and simply scrape off the print.

For surfaces, simply sand off or paint over.

What images can I print?

Quite literally any image or vector file. For best results, use vector files like .eps or .ai. For image files like .jpg or .png, resolution should be as high as possible to attain the best possible result.

Can it print on uneven surfaces?

Yes, it can print on moderately uneven surfaces without large contours or deep depressions. It can print on brick, concrete, wood, louvers, etc.  Certain surfaces that can't be printed are round pillars, corrugated metal panels, contoured surfaces.

Should I treat the surfaces before  printing?

Surfaces should generally be cleaned so that it's free from oil and dirt for best adhesion to the surface. For surfaces like glass, although just cleaning is sufficient, priming the surface with glass primer will greatly increase ink absorption and adhesion.

Why not just paste a sticker?

Printing allows you to print on areas where stickers are not suitable. E.g rough concrete surfaces, brick, wood, etc; these surfaces are rough of fibrous and stickers tend to peel off easily.

Stickers are also susceptible to damage whereas prints are more resistant to scratches and bumps, making it more lasting in public settings.

How long does printing take?

Print speed is about 1sqm/hour on the highest resolution and will be faster at lower resolutions.

What limitations are there?

The printer is unable to do borderless prints due to the printhead not being able to reach into the edge of the wall; so there will be a border of roughly 30cm from the top and bottom that cannot be printed.

The machine can print up to 3 meters high, and infinite width. For images higher than 3 meters, we will need to stitch the image by erecting a scaffold to bring it up.

What is the print resolution?

The printing resolution is up to 2880dpi, you can also choose 1440dpi, 1080dpi, and 960 dpi.

What ink does it use?

It uses CMYK(W) 5 color UV ink and is cured with a UV lamp which enables it to adhere to both porous and nonporous surfaces like, metal, glass, acrylic, tiles, etc; rather than the regular water based ink where it cannot be absorbed.
